Christ Church Episcopal Preschool educates young children, creates community among school, families, and church, and honors and nurtures children in the Episcopal tradition. We welcome children aged two to five in small classes where all are affirmed as children of God and are inspired and encouraged to become their best selves—socially, emotionally, academically and spiritually.

Homeless to Homes:  An Evening with Kathy Izard

Friday, March 3 at 5:30 PM

Join us for an inspiring evening as Kathy Izard speaks about her journey to change the world, one family at a time.  Kathy was an award-winning graphic designer in Charlotte, North Carolina before successfully launching the pilot program, Homeless to Homes, for the Urban Ministry Center in 2007.  She successfully demonstrated this Housing First program could succeed and led the city-wide effort to raise $10 million to build Moore Place, Charlotte’s first permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless men and women.  She has also written an inspirational nonfiction book, published in October 2016, entitled The Hundred Story Home: A Journey of Homelessness, Hope, and Healing.  Kathy lives in Charlotte with her husband and four daughters.  The evening starts with dinner and a book signing from 5:30 to 6:15 PM; Kathy speaks from 6:15 to 7:15 PM and concludes with a time of Q&A until 8 PM. The cost for this event (which includes dinner) is $10.  Please add an additional $15 if you would like a copy of Kathy’s book. Childcare will be available. To register and pay for this event, visit Evening with Kathy Izard - Homeless to Homes.

Advent Worship

Jo Harney

Today, Wednesday 11/30, we had our first Advent noonday worship for parents and parishioners in the chapel.  We meditated on the word “hope” as an Advent theme.  We will continue to have these noonday Eucharists on Wednesdays for the next three weeks.  All are welcome to attend and to receive Holy Communion.

Advent Doves

Jo Harney

It is time for the Advent Doves project—our yearly effort to provide Christmas gifts for needy children at a number of local preschools and other educational institutions.  We have “adopted” a number of children, and you may choose one or more of these children for whom to purchase gifts.  Suggested gifts are provided for each age level and gender.  If you would like to choose an Advent Dove, please use this link to sign up.

  • Gifts should be wrapped and clearly tagged for your selected recipient (i.e. "StM25, GIRL, 3 years")  (Denise has these tags.)
  • Suggested spending limit of $35
  • Gifts are preferred (instead of gift cards)
  • NEW this year -- Please drop items in box near Denise's office by Friday, December 9th, 2016

Try to include your child in the choosing of gifts; what a great example you’ll be for developing his/her own compassion and generosity!

Christmas Party

Jo Harney

The Christmas party invitation was sent home in children’s bags on Wednesday, 11/30.  We hope you and your family can attend this fun and festive event on December 14 from 5 to 7 p.m.  Santa will be joining us and we’ll have delicious kid-friendly food.  Crafts for families to do together will be available and Dr. D. will lead us all in a Christmas sing-along.  Please RSVP to dgilliam@christchurchde.org.  You can sign up to help with the party at CCEP Christmas Party.

Angel Threads

Jo Harney

Thank you to all who have donated clothing to be sold at the Angel Threads booth at the Green Show.  This is the CCEP-sponsored booth and we are very lucky to have two alumni parents (Laura Simon and Laura McGinley) still involved in running this effort.  We do need volunteers to help sort and display the clothing on Thursday afternoon, December 1 and all day Friday, December 2.  If you can help, please let Jo or Denise know.

Next Andrew's Place Opportunity Coming Up on December 7

Jo Harney

Our next Andrew’s Place dinner will be on December 7 and is being coordinated by Amie Rogers from the Lambs class.  You can help feed the homeless by cooking and/or serving.  Amie has selected a wonderful fall menu of chicken and dumpling casserole, sweet potatoes, green salad, and dessert.  If you can help make a dish or if you can go to the shelter to serve, please sign up here:  Andrews Place December 7.  (We serve dinner at 5:30 and are all done by 6:15.)

Andrew's Place Dinners - First Opportunity Coming Up on November 2

Jo Harney

Once again, our parent community will serve dinner to the men at Andrew's Place (homeless transitional shelter--part of Friendship House) on the first Wednesday of November, December, January, and February.  You may participate in several ways.  Offer to cook a main dish, provide a salad, vegetable, or dessert.  Organize the reheating and packing up of food to be transported to the shelter.  Volunteer to take the food to Andrew's Place and serve the residents; then sit down to enjoy the meal and conversation.

Andrew's Place islocated in the basement of the Episcopal Church of Sts. Andrew & Mathew on Shipley Street.  The entrance to the shelter is on the Orange Street side of the building.  (Ring the doorbell.)  Parking is available in the lot on the south side of the church and is free at that time of day.  We serve dinner at 5:30 p.m. and are all done by 6:15 p.m.
