Christ Church Episcopal Preschool educates young children, creates community among school, families, and church, and honors and nurtures children in the Episcopal tradition. We welcome children aged two to five in small classes where all are affirmed as children of God and are inspired and encouraged to become their best selves—socially, emotionally, academically and spiritually.

The teacher will co-teach in nursery or primary classroom. This person is charged with carrying-out provided age-appropriate lessons and creating an environment of kindness and inclusivity. Our school serves children 18 months-5 years old.

Schedule Options : Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM- 1:00 PM or 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM

Reports to:    Head of School

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current or eligible to hold Delaware certification as an Early Childhood Assistant, teacher preferred

  • Experience with Early Childhood preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the care and education of young children within the guidelines and standards of CCEP

  • Follows the guidelines in the Faculty Resource Book and other directives for the care, safety and education of children as well as such other functions as may be assigned from time to time, all to the sole satisfaction of the head of school of Christ Church Episcopal Preschool.

  • Support colleagues and parents with a spirit of cooperation and approach all responsibilities with a willing, appreciative heart understanding that the successful nurture and education of children is always a cooperative effort

  • Consistently teach with integrity

  • Use a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.

  • Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.

  • Maintain classroom environment according to CCEP standards for organization, appropriate opportunities, and cleanliness

  • Attend to children's basic needs by feeding them, dressing them, and changing their diapers as needed.

  • Include direct instruction to children helping them manage their personal needs and helping them increase in responsibility for keeping their learning environment comfortable

  • Use Conscious Discipline behavior management and classroom organization at all times; to the exclusion of behavior management that rewards good behavior with food or toys and punishes undesirable behavior with consequences that are embarrassing, punitive or uncomfortable for the child

  • Maintain behavior that models respect and responsibility and are in no way physical or in no way embarrass or ridicule any child

  • Keep all children in direct adult supervision at all times

  • Communicate in a positive, direct, appropriate and informative manner with parents, colleagues, administration, and head of school

  • Communicate regularly with families

  • Represent Christ Church Episcopal Preschool, professional colleagues, children and their families with integrity, dignity and respect

  • Participate and be present for all community events including, but not limited to Open House, Holiday Parties, Programs Celebrations, Spring Sing, Progression Program, school sponsored after hour events, faculty and staff meetings and trainings, and all other extra hour events announced by Employer, or their agents

  • Acquire all certifications, professional training and development as required by law and by Christ Church Episcopal Preschool in a timely manner

  • Be kinder than necessary

Standard Requirements:

  • Favorable Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check for the candidate who is offered employment

  • Tuberculin Test and physical

  • Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck

  • CPR Certified

  • Administration of Medication Certified

Rate of Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
