Fizzing Colors Experiment
Join CCEP teachers Ms. Long, Ms. Williams, Ms. Chatburn, and Ms. Stasio in their classrooms while they investigate what makes basking soda fizz!
Materials
Box of baking soda
small bowl of white vinegar
medicine droppers
food coloring
baking sheet/dish
Experiment
Spread baking soda out on baking sheet
Mix vinegar and food coloring. Our teachers used 6 different colors!
Get your child talking. Ask them to make some predictions about what will happen.
Drip the vinegar mixture onto the baking soda.
Observe and Discuss!
extension activities
Use medicine droppers or spray bottles: Both are great to build hand and finger muscles, practice fine motor skills, and coordination
Discuss primary and secondary colors: Experiment with how the colors mix together and what new colors are made
Use different liquids: Try dripping soap, water, oil, etc. Make predictions about what will happen and why. You can also discuss the science behind this fun experiment!
